A few Unbreakable Rules of Nail Care
I came across a few rules lately that I thought were very interesting because you see the same ones just about everywhere. There are:
1- Take your vitamins. What goes in your body will help take care of your nails so show the world just how bad your diet is. Dull hair and dull brittle nails are proof you’re not getting enough protein, calcium and other important nutrients in your diet.
2- Don’t be a slave to nail polish trends!! You see it all the time too. Just because the in color is purple glitter doors mean you have to wear it too. If it does look good on your fingernails but you must wear it, wear it on your toes! I think some of the coolest colors just make your open toe shoes stand out in a crowd especially in the summer.
3- Don’t be afraid to try a new color you never thought you would ever wear. Got darker, go lighter there is a million shades of red out there. There has to be one right for you. If you buy a color that you apply once and hate it, there are lots of nail bloggers out there that might be interested in a swap or willing to buy it at a lesser cost. Especially if it's a really high-end polish brand like Chanel which are over 20.00 a bottle!! I just bought a color that application of it made me just dislike it. And I mean really dislike it. After some great information from a few twitter buddies (thanks guys) I really debating if I want to try and apply it again.
4- Take care of your tools. Learn how to follow the top three s- sterilize, sanitation, and storage. If you get manicures done and want to take your own tools with you, ask your manicurist the best places to get one time use products for nails. That's if your manicurist isn't all ready using them herself. Or have two sets, one for home use and one for when you get your nails done.
5- If your polish is chipped and it's a dark color? Believe me if you can see it so can everyone else. That's why if you get your nails done take your own polish with you. Learn how to fix chipped polish if you don't want to redo all your nails. Don't have time for chipped polish fixing all the time? (Some brands are really bad, can chip first day) then wear lighter colors. When they chip it's not as noticeable. If you work in an office? Be prepared to be redoing your polish a lot.
6- Don’t forget to use hand moisturizer. Did you know that paper is one of the biggest enemies for your hands! You got to keep your hands moisturized because paper will suck out all moisture in your hands.
Got dry parched cuticles and fingertips? It's your job taking its toll on your hands and nails. If you can use the moisturizer on your face you can use it on your hands.
Just thought these would be interesting enough to share with you.
How To Do a Manicure
It’s hard to get a manicure every week, and also expensive. That’s why in this article we’re sending you the best tips to do your own manicure at home and always have impeccable hands.
Set a day of the week to dedicate a few minutes to your hands. That way it will be easier to always keep them impeccable.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO A MANICURE AT HOME?
To do your own manicure at home, you don’t need much more than the following tools: • Orange stick:
The orange stick removes the cuticle and the dirt from your nails. They are very economical and are very useful. I also use them to remove nail polish from around the fingers when I accidentally paint outside my fingernail contour. Just soak the orange stick in nail polish remover and quickly remove the edges.
• Nail clipper:
It’s better to file your nails to shape them, but sometimes it’s necessary to cut them to equal lengths. Use a nail clipper instead of scissors.
• File or emery board:
Invest in a good, long-lasting file. The best ones are made of cardboard. Choose a size that you like and keep it. Also, there are some files that are stronger on one side than on the other. These are the ideal kind because that way you only have to buy one.
• Nail buffer and polisher:
Usually files have one side to file the nail and another to give it shine. If it’s not the case with yours, obtain a nail buffer and polisher. These smooth out your nails if they’re peeling.
• Transparent treatment nail polish:
You need to choose something that works well with you. If your nails are always breaking, you need a nail hardener, of if they’re dry, you need a moisturizing treatment. Usually any pharmacy will have an entire treatment range at very accessible prices. This nail polish also serves as a transparent nail polish when you don’t feel like painting them. • Cuticle oil:
This is one of the best buys you can make to have impeccable hands. These oils soften and moisturize the cuticle. If you are not very good at cutting your cuticles, you can skip this step by using this product.
• Colored nail polish:
Choose the colors you like and that coordinate with the image you want to project. For example, if you have a special dinner, paint your nails a wine red. It looks very nice, especially if your nails aren’t too long. Or, for example, if you have a business lunch, paint your fingernails a porcelain tone; it’s very elegant and discrete. If you feel like adding a touch of color and fun, paint your nails a dark pink. Why not?
• Protective/strengthening polish:
This foundation will help your colored nail polish to last longer and will also add a nice shine to your polish.
• Exfoliating lotion:
You can use a body exfoliating lotion or else you can make a natural one with sugar and olive oil. Try it—it’s amazing! This is one of my most ancient tips. I don’t remember where I read it or from whom I learned it, but the truth is that I use it every week and I love it! All you need are two teaspoons of white sugar and four tablespoons of virgin olive oil (if you prefer, you can use moisturizing body oil, but olive oil has worked well for me. Mix together well and apply to your hands, rubbing them gently. Don’t forget the fingers and the nails. You can also use this exfoliating lotion on your forearms and elbows; then rinse yourself with lukewarm water. Your hands will feel soft and like new!
• Moisturizing hand cream:
Buy a good moisturizer for your hands, one that adapts to your needs. For example, if your hands crack easily or you have dark spots…buy what you need. Nail polish remover:
The ones that are especially good are those that don’t contain acetone, as this is very aggressive and many people are allergic to it.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS
Follow these steps to take care of your hands easily and quickly. 1. Remove all nail polish from your nails.
2. Cut your nails to an equal length.
3. File your nails and use the buffer to leave them smooth.
4. Use the orange stick to eliminate any leftover dirt and to softly remove the cuticles (I don’t recommend cutting the cuticles at home, as I think this is very difficult and a job best left to professionals. I know that some of you do this. If you already do this and you’re happy with the result, continue doing so. If not, just try to soften them with cuticle oil.)
5. Exfoliate your hands. Follow the advice we gave you previously. You’ll see the result immediately.
6. Dry your hands well. This step is very important. If you’ve exfoliated your hands with olive oil and you don’t dry your hands off well, especially the nails, the nail polish will not last long. Remember to dry yourself carefully.
7. Paint your nails. Follow this order: treatment foundation, colored nail polish, another coat of colored nail polish, and protective/strengthening nail polish. I know, it’s a lot of coats, but remember that you want your nails to look perfect all week long.
8. Moisturize your hands. Lastly and once at least an hour has gone by (yes, one hour—if not, after all the effort, your nails will be immediately ruined when you apply the moisturizer), moisturize your hands carefully. You will feel like new!

How Nail Polish Colors Can Change Your Personality
Nail color speaks reams about you as a person. There are so many colors
on the market that it is easy to find one that suits your
personality. You can try a variety of colors to suit your mood. So
what are the best nail polish colors? Well this will of course depend
on your particular moods, and of course your personality. You will be
surprised at how much the color of your nails will reflect on you.
Some colors like green nail polish will subtly tell someone, “Here is
someone who is exciting to know.” Green is a color that comes in
many shades. You can have exciting dark shades to add drama and
mystery to your appearance. On the other hand you can use lighter
shades to bring out the feminist and gentler side of your
personality. There is really a wonderful variety of mood polish in this
particular shade.
Dark nail polish will bring out a different trait in your character, perhaps
hinting at a little mystery and strength of character. These colors are
very dramatic and will certainly turn some heads. Navy blue is one
of the colors the celebrities are making famous right now but there
are other exciting colors to try. Some people like to go extreme with
black nail polish while others like to go retro with dark reds, if
you have an olive skin tone these colors will look even more
dramatic. It is important to apply this type of nail polish correctly as
due to the dark colors even the smallest mistake can be seen.
Trendy polish will tell people that you are interested in fashion and want
to be “in with the crowd.” You can change your hail polish according
to the season and what the celebrities are wearing. For example
matte finishes with dark greens, gray, navy blue and matte white
are being worn by the trend setters this fall. Your nails will not have
that shiny look but will look magical at evening occasions.
Metallic nail polish is also in vogue right now. They give a little shine to
your nails as opposed to the matte look. Silver colors are the best
but gold, bronze, graphite and chrome will make eyes turn. These
colors have the advantage of going with anything and at the same
time adding drama to your look.
Of course if you want a traditional “French Manicured” look use pale and
pastel colors like white, pink and clear colors. You can also use
apricot and peach. Using the “French Manicure” colors will tell others
that you are a traditional person who also likes a little European
class.
Pick your nail polish according to your mood and not necessarily your skin
tone. Most of these different shades will look good on any skin
color. The key to beautiful nails is not only the color you use but how
you look after them. So do not forget to keep your nails healthy
and well manicured. This will reflect well on you and show off
the color of your nails to perfection.

What is Nail Art?
Nail art, the practice of painting decorative designs on your fingernails, is a fun way to brighten up your everyday look or accessorize a special occasion outfit. There are a variety of nail art designs available, ranging from subtle and understated to funky and outrageous. For example, you could choose to paint flowers on your nails for a date or spell out the name of your favorite athletic team on the day of the big game. While the more intricate designs are best left to a professional, it’s possible to create simple nail art at home.
The key to any successful nail art design is starting with clean and well-shaped nails. Nails should be neatly trimmed and filed before painting. Even the most accomplished artist can’t create an attractive design on nails that have been bitten down to stubs. If your natural nails are beyond repair, consider applying artificial acrylic nails before painting your nail art design.
Once you’ve painted your nails with a neutral base coat, you can draw your design using a special thin-tipped nail brush. However, beginners may choose to improvise by creating their designs with a bobby pin or toothpick. Regardless of which application method you choose, it’s best to use a cotton swab and pure acetone to remove any polish application mistakes. Work as fast as possible, since nail polish dries fairly quickly. To save time, have a separate brush for each color of polish.
